During the environmental assessment phase of the Oxley Highway to Kempsey Pacific Highway Upgrade, a locally significant farm complex was identified to the north of the Wilson River at Telegraph Point. In 2012, Niche Environment and Heritage Pty Ltd (Niche) was commissioned by SMEC Hyder Joint Venture, on behalf of the NSW Roads and Maritime Services, to prepare a Heritage Archaeological Assessment for Site OHK11 (Lot 3).

Lot 3 was originally part of a parcel of land that had been notified as the Johns Plains Village Reserve on the 24th December 1861 (Parish of Prospect 1892 map).

Historical research and archaeological survey of the farm complex identified on Lot 3 confirmed the potential for archaeological remains of a c1896 cottage and outbuildings. The new bridge upgrade of the Pacific Highway directly impacted on the site.
